For the first time since its inception, Algonquin Arts Theatre is proud to announce the first annual Gong-A-Thon, a fundraising event in support of the Theatres charitable and educational programming, on Saturday, August 14th. Talented individuals and groups from the Jersey Shore and even across the tri-state area will meet on stage to compete for various prizes and the chance to showcase their talents. Performers of various genres are welcome to enter the contest, including but not limited to singers, dancers, actors, poets, and comedians.

Performers can sign up for the event now by visiting https://www.algonquinarts.org/fr. The event will take place from 7:30-10:00 pm. The more tax-deductible sponsorships a performer raises, the more "stage time" they earn. The "gong" will signify when a performer's earned time is up. The Gong-A-Thon webpage lists all registered performers and accepts and tracks all earned sponsorships and time earned. Guest judges, including "Broadway Ray" Soehngen and Brittany Matthews of Fred Astaire Dance of Manasquan, and the audience will vote.

First place winner will receive two free tickets to a Broadway show (courtesy of Broadway Ray) and an opportunity to perform in Algonquin Arts Theatre's 2010-2011 Main Stage season!

Performers already signed up include: 2007 Miss NJ Senior America Josephine Araniti, Al Califano of Spring Lake, Brett Colby of Asbury Park, Natalie Cortale of Marlboro, Christa Dalmazio of Leonardo, Justin Giegerich of Brielle, Lauren Kloza of Wall, Arianna Ieva Lippay of Point Pleasant, John Newman of Wall, Elaine Orzechowski and Jeff Point of Neptune, Sarah Stone of Manasquan, William Whitefield of Asbury Park and Jenny Woods of Red Bank.

Gong-A-Thon sponsorships and ticket sales help to sustain Algonquin Arts Theatre's ever-important educational outreach programming, including the Theatre Autism Workshop, the Page & Stage literacy program for 3-5 year old children in regional Head Start centers, the Rising Stars statewide classical music competition for young adults, and many other programs designed to increase access to the arts at the Jersey Shore.
