Algonquin Nets $61,000 at Annual Gala & Gears Up for Summer Events

Algonquin Arts Theatre netted $61,000 at the organization�s annual gala starring Broadway and TV legend Ben Vereen on May 19th. The Theatre would like to thank the event�s Superstar Sponsors, Robert & Linda Daleo and Simon Kaufman, Esq. & Maria Zito-Kaufman, as well as all the other generous sponsors and supporters.
The annual gala helps raise money for such educational and outreach programs as the Page & Stage Literacy Program, Rising Stars Classical Music Event for High School Musicians & Vocalists, Scholarships for the Performing Arts Academy, ShoreDance Educational Dance Program, On the Road Outreach Program, the Autism Theatre Workshop, as well as a variety of performances for all ages. After this successful event, Algonquin Arts Theatre is celebrating the arts and success of the previous season and launching the upcoming summer season of events.
Pinkalicious the musical, produced by Vital Theatre Company, will take the stage on Saturday, June 25th for two performances, 11 am and 2 pm. Based on New York Times best-selling children's picture book, Pinkalicious by Elizabeth Kann & Victoria Kann, this wonderful children's show is currently playing Off-Broadway in NYC and Toronto. This is the production's Jersey Shore premiere, and the performance is part of the Family Theatre Series, which is fun for the whole family. Tickets are $15 for students, $18 for seniors, and $20 for adults.
Shore Senior Idol, a head-to-head vocal competition for some of the best senior singers in the state, will take place on Sunday, June 26th at 3 pm. Tickets are $15.
G. Love, back by popular demand, will perform in a solo concert on Saturday, July 2nd at 8 pm. This event is sponsored by BareWires Surf & Skate & Waterlily. A Philadelphia native, G. Love is known for his live performances and is often seen performing with Jack Johnson. He is also signed to Johnson's label Brushfire Records and has made appearances on the records of other artists such as Slightly Stoopid and Donavon Frankenreiter and also went on tour with Dave Matthews. This performance will feature songs from his newly-released album, "Fixin to Die," as well as other favorites. Tickets are $29.
Nunsense produced by Shore Repertory Theatre Company will take place on July 8-10 and 15-17. Featuring star turns, tap and ballet dancing, an audience quiz, and comic surprises, Nunsense has become an international phenomenon. With more than 5,000 productions worldwide, it has been translated into 21 languages. Writer and original director Danny Goggin received the 1986 Outer Critics' Circle Awards given to Nunsense for Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Music. Tickets are $18 for students, $25 for seniors, and $27 for adults.
Finally, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor, starring local singing sensation Chris Pinnella and produced by Algonquin Arts Theatre, will take place on July 29-31 and August 5-7. From the writing team that brought us Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical with lyrics by Tim Rice. This beloved story is based on the "coat of many colors" story of Joseph from the Hebrew Bible's Book of Genesis. This event is sponsored by the Paul F. Zito, MD Educational Foundation. Tickets are $18 for students, $25 for seniors, and $27 for adults.
